Munchen, Armeemuseum mit Kriegerdenkmal

I’ve written all about this place in the other pc and there’s nothing more to say about it. I wrote a long letter and finished it just now too so there’s not much else to say. I’m getting lovely and brown and the first roll of films is to be ready tonight. Rene’s had one of hers duplicated but it was all views and the pcs are far better than her snaps. I think I only took one view if any. Do you like the arrangement of stamps on the envelope? There are several others different I can put on the next letter. I noticed there are two kinds of 12s, you get the [???] [???] shape out of the stamp machine and the other when you buy the stamps out of the po.

Alte Tradition

No letters for three days now but a whole [???] of papers yesterday from father. Radio Times, John O’London which was very nice to get. I had forgotten I had this pc it is of the old shop at Mittenvald where violin making has been going on for the last 250 years - where I saw the [???] lute. The art of violin construction was first brought to Mittenvald by the Italians and in the buildings you then saw their influence on architecture. There was also a very interesting and picturesque church (r.c.) here and the buildings were all very old. The town was right at the foot of some very high mountains and I think it is a winter sports centre. It was a dear little place. I’ve had *two* *letters* from *you* in six weeks. Is that best you can do? [seems annoyed!]

Studentinnenhelm des Vereins Studentenhaus E.V

My room is on the 3rd floor on the right side here, I shall put a spot beside it to show you which one. D’s is on the other side of the house and there aren’t any pics of it. Last year I was in the one you can see on the roof. It’s very dull today, looking like rain and we don’t know where we’ll go in the afternoon. We’ve been at a folk song class this afternoon and it was great fun. Did I tell you that Gustav[???] is away at labour camp? I heard from him the other day

Studentinnenhelm des Vereins Studentenhaus E.V.

This is exactly my room except that I am on the 3rd floor and look onto the tops of the trees instead of into them. We think this is actually Abbie’s room on the first floor. Miss Spence arrived on Wednesday but hasn’t been well. She is staying in a hotel near the station whose proprietor is a friend of Inga’s [???} family (the girl who was staying with Abbie last month) and we go in to see her everyday. We went to the pictures with her last night, I think she is coming to the university classes from next week on. Best Love Helen.

Munchen, Pagodenburg

Where we were this afternoon. This is one of the small castles, all one room, which are dotted about the park. It is ricocco architecture French style. The water is just thick with 6″ fish, I don’t know what kind and you occasionally see one occasionally fat like haddies [Scottish - haddock]. The front path runs between the water and the building and we passed from right to left. There were swans and well grown signets and wild duck and tame duck on the water too.

Kloster, Ettal. Inneres der Kirche

There was a Benedict wine on sale inside the monastery grounds, probably made by the priests themselves and I was very much tempted to get some to bring home ([???]) but thought it wouldn’t be improved by all the travelling it would have to do before then. Most of the Americans bought it and referred to it always as ‘liquor’ quite seriously and it was rather funny. We had a perfect y’day and today has been very enjoyable altho’ we had about an hour and half’s torrential rain while we were on the open raft with no shelter whatsoever beyond our coats. However, the sun made up for lost timeafter that and everything in the garden was lovely.

Kloster, Ettal

Dear All, I’m sorry it has been a day that you wouldn’t get a letter - about two days ago, as when I came in last night I found that a letter I had posted I think on Friday night had been returned to me as insufficiently stamped (I knew that already but had thought you could just pay the excess rather than that and should wait until the next day and get more stamps). The stamps I had on already had been cancelled and I have to take it to a special po to get properly stamped and haven’t had the opportunity yet with being away all day today and didn’t get it last night until after 11. This is a Benedictine monastary which we visited yesterday and saw part of. It has a beautiful situation situation up in the Alps. Much Love from Helen.
