#90 Dank fur Geburtstags-Einladung

Last night I heard the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, I don’t believe there is another orchestra in the world to touch it. How I wish you were with me to hear all the fine music Berlin has to offer. Charlie.

This is more than half way up a mountain and we’re lunching in this chalet at the moment. There’s a man playing his accordion and everything is very lovely. By chance this morning coming out in the train we sat in the same compartment as five girls from Glasgow. One a year ahead of me in GHS [Glasgow High School] who I knew to look at while one comes from Pollokshields and one from Newlands. The Newlands one was in school and was a friend of Super Hen [???] and Jean Martin. She says Jean teaches music, they’ve been on all the excursions and it’s funny we shouldn’t even have seen them until now they haven’t seen us either. Rene goes home on Monday as the hostel can’t keep her til Tuesday. I think there won’t be any more change about what day she goes. I had a pc in German from Auntie Mora this morning I’ll reply in German too.

Unterkunftshaus Spitzingsee

We’re now sitting at a cafe above the Spitzingsee and this is exactly the view facing me. We were up to the top of the Badenschneid 1660m and it was some climb I know I’m going to ache all over tomorrow. Coming down (different route) we had to practically slide all the way as it was just a yellow [???] path and my shoes are quite ruined. We hadn’t realised what we were coming too and I am wearing my shoes with the suede parts. It’s been very dull for which we were thankful as it would have been just about impossible on that mountain with sun beating on us. Much Love Helen.

Seeshaupt am Starnberger See

Where we are today. It’s a glorious afternoon and we’ve sailed up to the top of this lake and are now to walk for an hour through the woods to another lake. There was a letter from Mum last night but we’ve had nothing but bulletins for a week. Love Helen

Bichmann Foto Karte

There was a letter today from Mum for which we thank her. The letter from Italy was from Temiyanke [International violinist] who doesn’t think he can manage a night with us but will meet me in Glasgow sometime to discuss it. He writes an awfully nice letter. Today we have been looking at a picture gallery and I was at classes in the university until 1′o’clock. We bought a melon this afternoon and are attacking it with even more than our usual fervour. It’s a beauty. Best love Helen.
