Wartburg, Blick auf Eisenach, BurschenSchaftsdenkmal u. Burschenhaus
I’m in a park at Wartburg just now waiting around til it’s time for the Marktbrite[???] train. It’s too hot to walk about so I’m sitting on a park chair with five children making sand pies at my feet. I’ve left my writing paper in my atache case which is in the left luggage. Otherwise I’d have been able to send a letter to you airmail. It’s addressed but not written yet. Miss D came as far as Meinenpass[???] with me and then she stayed on in the train and I had to change. I had a second change at Schueim[???] which I hadn’t known about until I got there. Second class is too dear and noone travels in it therefore I’ve had no company at all except a couple of inspectors, one on each train.

Another view of the interior of the Wartburg this is Luther’s room. Behind where this photograph has been taken there is a lovely old cupboard with carved doors and it’s rather unfortunate it got left out. The green thing on the right is the stove, that’s the kind you find in most homes especially in the country and in mountain huts and chalets. The [???] on the extreme right is a wooden bed also with lots of carving on it but it’s just the frame there’s no spring or clothes on it. The roof of it was carved wood too I hope Auntie is having a good time at Carluke[???] and Fife.

This is a picture of Elizabeth’s chapel inside the Wartburg and the colours are really pretty well reproduced. There’s a whole gallery of epsisodes in St Elizabeth’s life and incidents showing her kindness to the sick and then her chapel comes at the end of the corridor. The windows and roof are particularly lovely only three of the eight tiny snapshots came out owing to bad light but they only cost 3 1/2d so that’s not so bad. The three [???] were good but we know to take the others in very strong light now.

I’ve just bought a huge pile of the lovliest pcs so you’ll be getting a spate of them now. We heard about the Prince yesterday although they seem to keep him out of sight all the time. He’s 24 just and is with a battalion and [???] regiment stationed in the Eisenach garrison and is [???] a leutenant and stays with Frau von K[ameke] who has befriended us in Eisenach. This is his shooting lodge which we visited yesterday afternoon. It’s in the most beautiful park but the poor boy can’t live there anymore because of the new Socialist regime in Germany and the house is rather weather beaten and crumbling when you’re close to it and the lawn here is just like a [???] hayfield. It’s very sad but Frau says he’s one of Hitler’s staunchest followers and thinks there’s noone like the Fuhrer in spite of all the sacrifices he’s had to make with the coming of Hitler. I saw his little two seater car yesterday I’ve had a [???] something in his bedroom which goes full [???] whenever in the house.
Love Helen.

I’m spending all of today in Weimar and made the awful discovery on arrival that our tickets here were only single and not return as we thought having paid 3.70 each for them so this is going to be a much more expensive day than we intended it to be. We’ve already been in the Schiller house this is the outside of it and the palace were the widow of the Prince of Saxe-Weimar used to stay. We’re now having lunch in a restaurant and one afterwards going to the Zachs[???] house and a resident’s palace in some park outside the town. It’s a pensions[???] day and we don’t have to go home until 7.30 from here. [???] sends her greetings and says to tell you I’m being a good [???] girl [???] her looking after me. Will send another pc later today, Love Helen.
