postcards and photos from the early-mid 1900s

Weimar, Schillerhaus

This is the dining room in the Schiller house, it was a most beautiful table and that’s the stove in the far away corner. There were windows down the right-hand-side of the room and everything is exactly as it was in Schiller’s time. I’ve got two beautiful portraits of him (pcs) they would be lovely framed. Best Love Helen.

Reichsautobahn. Munchen-Salzburg

This is the road they were finishing last year between Munchen and Salzburg. There are trees and shrubs planted on the grass in the middle but they don’t seem to have come up yet. Thank-you for the papers, you are keeping me well supplied with bulletins. Tonight we’re going to a Bavarian evening where they will be folk singing and dancing and you are invited to wear Bavarian clothes if you have them. Abby bought a frock for it this afternoon but we’re just going in ordinary summer clothes.

Dear Miss Helen,
I thankyou for your nice letter. I regret not to be able to visit you personally because I am at time in the work service for half a year. On the backside you can see my camp. Best Greetings, your Gustav Kaneaur.

Oberammergau mit Kofel

Have just got back from a serenade concert which was very good. I am glad that D got the opportunity of hearing one. I think tomorrow we are going to an open air performance of Sliants [???] Don Juan with a ballet out in the Hympaberg [???] grounds and that ought to be lovely. Yesterdays flossfart [???] on the [???] tram was good fun but it was a very dull and showery day and we had a bad accident on our raft. A boy dived into too shallow water and made a mess of his head and that sort of dampened things, he is alright though.
