Isn’t he nice? [please note: this is NOT a view my grandmother still holds by any means! but is interesting to note how the propoganda worked at the time] I saw him on the pictures yesterday, we saw the whole opening of the games at Berlin with the torch bearers and all the representatives of the different countries parading round the stadium. We also saw the American crowd training on the liner coming over and landing and driving through the streets and saw a great deal of the swimmers practicing. You’d have been very thrilled with it and I hope they’re running the film at home so you can see it. I wish you could have been at Berlin. Helen.

I’ve written all about this place in the other pc and there’s nothing more to say about it. I wrote a long letter and finished it just now too so there’s not much else to say. I’m getting lovely and brown and the first roll of films is to be ready tonight. Rene’s had one of hers duplicated but it was all views and the pcs are far better than her snaps. I think I only took one view if any. Do you like the arrangement of stamps on the envelope? There are several others different I can put on the next letter. I noticed there are two kinds of 12s, you get the [???] [???] shape out of the stamp machine and the other when you buy the stamps out of the po.

Where we were this afternoon. This is one of the small castles, all one room, which are dotted about the park. It is ricocco architecture French style. The water is just thick with 6″ fish, I don’t know what kind and you occasionally see one occasionally fat like haddies [Scottish - haddock]. The front path runs between the water and the building and we passed from right to left. There were swans and well grown signets and wild duck and tame duck on the water too.

Dear Father, thanks very much for all the papers that came today - John O’L. the Sketches etc. I saw a short note in one of the papers about the funeral of a dancer called Argentina - it wasn’t the great Argentine was it surely? We haven’t been getting any news at all and [???] has no bills[???] allowed. Did you like the one I sent you about Olympia? Renee [???] will be home on Monday I think and will be phoning you she sends her love. I got a marvelous 75pf airmail stamp today in the PO and will send it when I have a heavy enough letter. It was lying in a drawer at the side of the counter and I asked for it without thinking that it’s worth 9dm. Maybe my first letter from Isenach will be heavy enough.

I think I’ve about exhausted my supply of Munich p/cs so this will be one of the last. It’s the headquarters of the Nat Soc party and is brown in color. Thanks to Auntie [???].C letter this am, mum for her letter, Dorothy for her letter and father for a pc. Mum’s letter and father’s pc were both insufficiently stamped but I only had to pay half a deustche mark extra between them. It’s a very good pc of south Seaford [???} views and I don’t know whether I’ll get a letter written to you today so that’s why I’m sending this now. I’m very sorry about missing two days, I think that airmail letters would account for one by arriving along with other communications from me. Much Love Helen.

Dear Father, This is the town hall on the left and you can see two men in shorts and a girl in the middle in her Bavarian frock and apron just as you see them everywhere. Wouldn’t it be lovely if people dressed like that at home - I wish all wore kilts. We went to pictures[???] tonight for the first time and saw Annie Lendra[???] and Max Schmaling[???]’s wife in a comedy. But she’s nothing but a pretty pretty little blonde and just has to look coy all the time. It cost us 90Pf each and the seats were wooden ow! 8.30 to 10.30! Professor Penhauses[???] second recital is tomorrow and I think we’ll be doing a university excursion on Saturday. We’ve had thunder and rain the last few days and haven’t been able to do much outside.

Very nice to be getting the papers from father. Do you remember I had a snap of this being built last year? It’s finished now and Hitler is coming to open it on Saturday so we’re hoping to see him. There’s to be an enormous procession and decorations are being put up in the streets now. I’m glad we’ll get seeing inside this place, the house of German art it is. We’ve got vouchers for the opera on the 20th, Wagner’s Die Meisterzingen and are going to a Mozart one the following week. Much Love from Helen.

Dinner here in the Haus last night cost me 3 1/2 d- a huge plate of rice and canned beef and salad and a glass of milk (it was the 1/2 d-) we are told it’s pancakes with cherries inside tonight (also 3 d). Love Helen.
